Marion County High School Hosts Open House

Marion County High School will host an Open House for students in grades 9-12 on Thursday, November 4, from 5:30 until 7:30. Parents are encouraged to come and meet with their child’s teachers and check their progress or discuss any concerns that they may have at this point. High school students are at the “midpoint” of the first semester. An Open House will be held for grades 6-8 in January because this will be the midpoint of the school year.

Marion County to Host Fourth Annual “Grad Night” College Fair, Selected Again for Georgia Apply to College Week

For the fourth year in a row, Marion County Middle/High School will host the “Grad Night” college fair in conjunction with Herff-Jones. This year’s fair will be held on November 4 from 5:30-7:30. All Juniors and Seniors (and their parents) are invited to attend. Seniors will be able to purchase caps and gowns and other graduation-related items from Herff-Jones the same night. The following organizations have already agreed to participate in this fair, and replies are eagerly awaited from many more who have been invited: Georgia Student Finance Commission, Darton College, Valdosta State University, University of West Georgia, Fort Valley State University, Middle Georgia College, the University of Georgia, Columbus State University, South Georgia Technical College, Andrew College, Georgia Southwestern State University, the U.S. Marines, and the U.S. Army.

For the second year in a row, Marion County’s Seniors have been selected to participate in Georgia Apply to College Week (GACW). The purpose of this week is for students to fill out college applications with on-site assistance. Students met with their guidance counselor at the end of the year last year and learned that they should take several steps before participating in GACW. They should 1) create an account at www.gacollege411.org, 2) take the SAT or ACT enough times to attain an appropriate score, and 3) decide on a few colleges to which they would like to apply. Representatives from Andrew College and South Georgia Technical College will be on hand to help students navigate the college application process.

Please remember: Early deadlines are approaching! Please check college websites to remain abreast of early application and scholarship deadlines should you plan to apply. See or call Mrs. Jernigan in the MCMHS guidance office for details.
