The Student of the Week for April 5 – April 9 is Noah Mott in Mrs. Carter’s 3rd grade class. Noah enjoys Math because he is good at it. Noah says he doesn’t have to study math it just comes naturally. He enjoys playing games at home with his cousins. Mrs. Carter says Noah is a great student who works very hard and has developed skills that have helped him achieve his goals. Noah is the son of Ramona Mott.

He likes to use the classroom microscopes and magnets. Phillip also enjoys using bulbs, batteries, and wire to make electric circuits. Phillip is the son of Phillip Peters and Crystal Medders. Marion Middle/High School: Amber Kazee
Amber Kazee is a 12th grader who enjoys reading books, cooking, spending time with friends, shopping, and riding 4-wheelers. She is also active in her church. Amber feels that “MCMHS is a great place to learn and make long-lasting friendships. Many classes prepare you for college, as well as ‘the real world.’” Amber was nominated because of the dedication, ambition, and spirit that she brings to each task she undertakes.

Perla McVey is a 9th grader who is the daughter of Bernard and Yolanda McVey. She was nominated by her World History teacher, Mr. Derek Goodroe, who described her as “a very diligent student who shows the utmost respect for her teachers and her peers. She is always on task and is a pleasure to teach. She is most deserving of this award.”

Lakeithia Rogers is a 7th grader. She was nominated by her homeroom teacher, Mrs. Mandy Dozier, who stated, “Lakeithia has been an excellent students since enrolling and really tries hard to complete anything that she has asked to do. She has proven to be a hard worker—polite and very positive.” She is the daughter of LaKisha Thomas.

Hunter Parker is a 7th grader who was nominated by Dr. Faye Wells and his peers in PAL (Program for Advanced Learners). They describe him as being a good leader, a role model for younger students, and someone who works hard to get his work done. In his spare time, Hunter enjoys sports. He is involved in baseball and football here at school. Hunter is the son of Bryan and Maria Parker.

Katherine Ta, a sixth grader, is the daughter of Thuy Huynh and Vinh Ta. She is a member of the middle school softball team who enjoys cheering and playing softball in her spare time. She also loves Marion County Middle/High School!
Katherine was nominated by Harry Jaynes who observed, “She has been a joy in the classroom by doing an excellent job on her assignments and exhibiting outstanding behavior. Not only has she been accomplished academically, Katherine has also been more than willing to be a peer helper to other students in the classroom.”

Marion Middle/High School: Blake Funkhouser
Blake Funkhouser, a junior, is the son of Sean and Christy Funkhouser. Blake is a member of the Marching Band, Jazz Band, Concert Band, and FFA. He serves as the treasurer of FFA this year. In his spare time, he enjoys fishing, woodworking, and agricultural adventures.
Blake is described by Assistant Band Director Kathy Christopher as “a very dedicated and hardworking student. Besides being a good saxophone player, he is always ready to help in any way possible, from making Gatorade to loading equipment. Blake really makes the directors’ jobs easier. I feel Blake needs to be recognized for both his past and present accomplishments.”
Blake feels that “one of the greatest things about our school is, we are given the freedom to express our individuality.”

Marion Middle/High School: Hannah Harbuck
Hannah Harbuck, a junior, is the daughter of David and Lisa Harbuck. Hannah enjoys hunting and encourages her peers: “Don’t laugh at others when they’re having a bad day, ‘cause it will come back to bite you…!”
Hannah was nominated by David Chapman for her outstanding performance in Healthcare Science.

Marion Middle/High School: Tye Young
Tye Young, a seventh grader, is the daughter of Bryan and Patty Young. Tye previously attended Midland Middle School and is in her first year at Marion Middle/High School. She loves her new friends at Marion County and enjoys riding four-wheelers and listening to music in her spare time. She also enjoys spending time with her family, including her two brothers.
Tye was nominated by her homeroom teacher, Mrs. Gina Teate, who described her as “kind.” Mrs. Teate added, “She really tries to help everyone in some way.”

Marion Middle/High School: Roderick Bishop
Roderick Bishop is an 8th grade student who enjoys playing basketball and football. Mrs. Sandy Wells, his Computer teacher, stated, “he made a simple suggestion that was the difference between my classes working as a unit or as individuals. We want to work together on the ‘same page.’ I am so grateful that he was aware and didn’t mind making the suggestion.”
Roderick is the son of Aretha McKinney. In his words, “Eagles are the best!”

Marion Middle/High School: Sharin McCullough
Sharin McCullough is an 8th grade student who was nominated by Mrs. Melonie Mitchell. “Sharin always has a positive attitude. She gets along well with her peers. She works diligently on all assignments and does an awesome job. She also is very active in the High School Marching Band! Sharin is an awesome well-rounded student.”
Sharin is the daughter of April French.

Marion Middle/High School: Gabriel Jones
“Gabriel Jones is an outstanding student. He is concerned about his performance in the class and works hard. He gets along well with his peers and is very respectful to adults. In addition, he participates in extracurricular activities. Gabriel is a wonderful young man,” said Spanish teacher Tara Thompson. Gabriel is a 10th grade student and member of the varsity football team. In his spare time, he enjoys drawing and lifting weights.
Gabriel feels that MCMHS has “the best school and football team in the state.” He is the son of Michael and Shanitha Jones.

Marion Middle/High School: Molly Rush
Molly Rush is a Senior and a member of the softball team, the Student Council, FCA, FCCLA, FBLA, Spanish Club, Senior Beta, and Aquila (yearbook) staff. She also enjoys playing softball in her spare time.
Her English teacher, Mrs. Edmunds, describes her as a student who “consistently represents a model English language arts student with her competence, work habits, and attitude.” She continued, “I have enjoyed having her in my class.”
Molly is the daughter of Jim and Connie Rush.

Alex Wilde is a Senior who is a member of the Yearbook staff, the tennis team, the Athletic Council, FCA, FBLA, and Senior Beta. In his spare time, he enjoys playing tennis, fishing, and hanging out with friends.
Alex feels that “MCMHS is so lucky to have such wonderful teachers who inspire students to be all they can be.”
Alex was nominated by his Yearbook advisor, Mrs. Dana Dillard: “He is an invaluable member of the Aquila Staff! In addition to serving as the editor of our yearbook, he is an absolute computer ‘guru.’”

Donald Smith is a seventh grade student who enjoys basketball, football, and running. He was nominated by his Language Arts teacher, Mrs. Hallianna Chapman, who stated, “Donald is attentive in class, does his classwork, is well-behaved, and has a smile on his face. He is a pleasure to teach.
Donald is enjoying MCMHS because “the teachers are nice, we have new books, and our lunchroom is better.”

David Logue is a seventh grade student who enjoys riding bikes and playing rec baseball in his spare time. He is enjoying MCMHS because he likes all of his teachers.
David was nominated by his homeroom teacher, Mrs. Pam Buchanan, who described him as “always polite.” She added, “He maintains a positive attitude every day. He tries to do his best in every subject. David is always prepared for class and completes his homework assignments.
David is the son of David and Carol Williams.

Marion Middle/High School: Brittany Allison
Brittany Allison is a Senior at MCMHS. According to Mark Carlock, who teaches Biblical History, “Brittany is an outstanding young lady who brings depth to many conversations. She is not afraid to ask questions. I have taught her in many classes, and she is a genuinely bright and hardworking student.”
Brittany enjoys reading when she is not busy with her classwork or her after-school job. She is the daughter of Ricky and Mary Lewis.
