Learning to Code

Mrs. Sandy Wells’ Exploratory Classes Creating “Dance Party” Projects

According to the makers of www.code.org, “Every student in every school should have the opportunity to learn computer science,” and our 6th and 7th graders at Marion County Middle/High School who are in Mrs. Wells’ classes get that opportunity. Students walk-through step-by-step instructions on how to code using blocks with built-in programming language. Makers of Code.org feel it is the best way to introduce students to the complicated language of coding.

All of the students love working with Code.org and enjoy the projects. Students have recently created projects on Code’s Dance Party option. They create dancers moving to built-in popular songs, while choosing the dancers, the backgrounds, the special effects, etc.

Some become so good at it that they show an early propensity to make coding a career. Whether future computer programmers or just having fun, everyone has a good time learning to code.
