IDEA

The Individuals with Disabilities Act (IDEA) requires that the school system provide information to private school administrators regarding the provision of equitable special education to parentally-placed private school students with disabilities. Home-schooled children with disabilities are considered in the same category and are also eligible for services under this provision of the law. Parentally-placed students are not entitled to a free appropriate public education (FAPE) but the district will provide services based on a proportionate share of federal funds.

To plan appropriately for the 2021-2022 school year for Individuals With Disabilities (IDEA) program for Special Education, we would like to meet with representatives of private/home schools located in Marion County to explain the Child Find process and procedures and discuss how Proportionate Share funds are determined and allocated and to determine the types and amounts of services that will be provided for the next school year. We will host this meeting on Thursday, June 24, 2021 at 12:00pm to explain this process and answer any questions. This meeting will be held at the Marion County Board of Education located at 1697 Pineville Road.

Please feel free to contact Loranda Holmes, Director of Student Support, at 229-649-2234 with questions that you might have regarding this program.
