April 21, 2022 – Over 250 students and their families attended the inaugural MCMHS Family STEAM Night. MCMHS CTAE (Career, Technical, and Agricultural Education) Department collaborated with Chattahoochee-Flint RESA’s STEM Coordinator, Heidi Goodin, to develop Family STEAM Night programming.

Over 26 stations filled The Eagle’s Nest and provided for attendees to observe and participate in demonstrations and activities related to Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math. Faculty, Staff and Students in Science, Math, Engineering & Technology, Food Science, Early Childhood Education, Agriculture, Healthcare Science, and Graphic Communications classes, Georgia Southwestern State University Chemistry Department and Communication and Emerging media Department,  along with Chattahoochee-Flint RESA, Mrs. Goodin and her team, prepared and facilitated all 26 stations. A few of the stations included were: AG is full of STEAM, Art with Emily,  "CheMysteries", Chromatography Flowers, Coding Bracelets, Coffee Creamer Ice Cream, Color Changing Lemonade, Family Engagement, Film Canister Rockets, Forensics, Hoop Gliders, How's your Ticker ticking?, Index Card Towers, Lava Lamps, Lemon Volcanoes, Let It Snow, Making and Playing with Media, Marshmallow Towers. Paper Copters, Science with Mrs. Teate, Sensory with Samantha, STEAM Snap Shot Spot, and Wind/Balloon Powered Cars.

We could not have had such a successful event without our volunteers from Marion County Retired Educators Association, FCCLA Alumni and Associates, Georgia Southwestern State University EdRising, Georgia Southwestern State University Admissions, South Georgia Technical College Admissions and most importantly our parent volunteers.

Local businesses and colleges provided awesome door prizes that were awarded to those in attendance. A big shout out to Keyt Builders for our Grand Prize Gift Certificate, The Coffee Club for providing cookie certificates for all attendees, Georgia Southwestern State University for rulers for all attendees and t-shirts, South Georgia Technical College, In Good Taste at The Dime Store, and Marion County FCCLA for other door prizes.

Family STEAM Night is a great opportunity for students to learn about new things and “show what they know”, all while bringing their families together through fun learning opportunities! We are thrilled with the support and turn out for this event and are already planning for 2022-2023!
