Post-Secondary Push!

At MCMHS, we want to help students transition.  Moving on can often be difficult for elementary, middle, and high school students, and taking those next steps together is part of our service to our students and families. From fifth grade tours of the middle high school, to the integration of eighth graders into high school classes, to abundant offerings of post-secondary discussion and opportunity, Marion County students are provided with the potential to soar.

Yesterday was a big day for students in 10th, 11th, and 12th grades, as they were provided with three opportunities to meet with post-secondary representatives. First, students in grades 10 and 11 attended Probe Fair at Georgia Southwestern State University. Over 30 colleges were represented at this fair, and students were able to talk with representatives from as many as possible.

Upon returning to the school, 10th-12th grade students were invited to meet with a University of Georgia representative to learn more information about the college application process and about UGA as a whole.

Finally, the evening culminated with the 17th annual Grad Night College Fair. Seniors were able to order caps and gowns, and representatives from the US Army, US Marine Corps, US Navy, ABAC, Columbus Technical College, Georgia Southwestern State University, Fort Valley State University, and South Georgia Technical College were on hand to speak with students and parents. Underclassmen were also invited to attend. This event is sponsored by the MCHS Counseling Office and FCCLA.  75% of the Class of 2024 was represented at the Grad Fair.

The next event for Seniors will be Apply to College Day on November 13th from 8-11. Representatives will be on hand to assist with the application process and with setup for the FAFSA (Financial Aid) form. Scholarship information is readily available to Seniors in their Teams account (Class of 2024) throughout the year. Parents may access this information with their Senior.
