Literacy is an element that can drive a student's entire school experience. Being able to read on or above grade level is a goal that all students strive to attain. In 2023, the Georgia Department of Education began recognizing schools with exceptional growth in the area of Literacy, calling them Literacy Leaders. These awards recognize grade-level reading in 3rd and 6th grades.

Marion County Middle/High School earned a Literacy Leader award for 6th grade Gateway Growth, reflecting a 16-point increase in literacy among 6th grade students. This is based on the Lexile score associated with English Language Arts milestone testing (ELA GMAS).

Marion County Middle/High wishes to recognize the hard work of teachers, students, parents, and community members who made this award possible. Marion County Middle/High's English department was also recognized as a Literacy Leader for the 23-24 school year for growth in American Literature as measured by the End of Course Test.
