As of today, Governor Kemp has opened COVID vaccines for educators. We plan to offer vaccinations to our faculty and staff on Friday, March 12, at the high school in a drive-through format. This may cause some congestion near the gym area. This is a very positive step in the process of moving back toward normalcy and keeping people safe.

COVID Update: We have had a couple of COVID-related instances relating to school buses and one involving LK Moss. You will be notified if your child was in close contact. As of this posting, we are not in any danger of having to close schools. However, we are getting very close on transportation. This could mean an interruption on a couple of bus routes. If this were to happen, we would do our best to juggle drivers to try to prevent issues with our elementary students, which may affect middle/high routes. We will keep you informed. The worst-case scenario would be if we received information very early one morning or late at night that impacts our bussing. We are also continuing to have COVID-19 issues affecting our board office. Next week, the board office will be closed (available in person 9-11 a.m.) You can reach us by phone or you may call one of the school offices.

Valentine's Day is almost here! With social distancing and sanitary practices in place, the Marion County School System would like to make sure you are still able to send gifts to students should you choose to do so. We will observe Valentine's Day for the school system on Thursday, February 11th (as long as schools remain open at that time). Friday (12th) and Monday (15th) are scheduled holidays. We ask that you adhere to the following guidelines as you order and have items delivered to the schools: 1) All items must come from one of our PRE-APPROVED licensed vendors: The Dime Store, The Coffee Club, and Buena Vista Floral. These vendors have agreed to follow COVID safety protocols, assisted by the Chamber of Commerce. No one will be allowed to drop off gifts at the schools except for approved vendors. 2) All items should be delivered by the vendor to the Media Center at L.K. Moss and to the gym at MCMHS. Please be sure to provide the vendor with the homeroom teacher for elementary students and the last period/block teacher of middle and high school students. (Note: At the middle/high school, students will be given their items on the way to the bus.) 3) As usual, if your child or teen is a bus rider, balloons must be the small kind with a "stick": no large balloons will be permitted on buses. 4) Anything other than flowers must be fully wrapped in cellophane. 5) Details for L.K. Moss, including safe classroom celebrations, will be printed in this week's newsletter. The Chamber has approved specific organizations with business licenses to participate in our delivery process. This is for the safety of our students, as deliveries will be held to rigid safety standards and will limit the number of visitors to our campus. Please refer to the school reopening information posted on our website for detailed information. If there is a licensed business wishing to participate, please contact the Buena Vista Chamber of Commerce to review safety procedures for becoming approved.
